TEP was appointed by National Grid to obtain consent for an extension to Kirkby 275kV substation. This involved the production of a Planning Statement, Design and Access Statement and Environmental Report to support the planning application for a new Super Grid Transformer (SGT) and an Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) bay. Following consent, TEP has also co-ordinated the discharge of planning conditions.
An ecological survey of the site conducted by TEP for the Environmental Report revealed a population of water voles in a nearby brook. TEP provided a number of recommendations for ensuring that the development works would not adversely affect the water vole population and to minimise damage to other habitats TEP is carrying out long term monitoring of the water vole population.
