Green Infrastructure Framework for North East Wales, Cheshire and Wirral
TEP prepared a GI framework for this extensive cross-border area which centres on the catchments of the Rivers Dee and Weaver. The area is home to 1.3million people and is expected to grow significantly, while facing challenges from climate change.
Some areas suffer extreme deprivation. The GI Framework used the processes of public benefit assessment and stakeholder consultation to highlight areas of priority for GI investment. Fifteen “Action Plan Areas” and seven “Environmental Management Areas” were identified, within which a concerted approach to planning for GI is advocated. TEP is now preparing GI Action Plans for several areas.
The work was carried out for Mersey Dee Alliance, six local authorities, Countryside Council for Wales and Natural England.
