HCA Term Consultancy

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has over 200,000 trees spread across an extensive land portfolio.

TEP manages HCA’s trees in the north of England. This involves tree surveys, risk management, arboricultural implication assessments and supervision of treeworks contracts. To streamline the service, TEP developed a bespoke GIS-based risk management system called Arborcura.

During field survey, a database collects detailed information and records accurate locations using GPS. Each tree is given a hazard rating score – this dictates the re-inspection frequency and the need for surgery.

Arborcura also creates works orders to issue to HCA’s arboricultural contractors, and provides a chronological history of all of the surveys and works carried out.

TEP won the Landscape Institute Award for Management 2007 for the Arborcura tree risk management system.
