Old Pale is a 138ha expansion of the Forestry Commission estate at Delamere Forest in Cheshire.
TEP carried out a comprehensive environmental assessment and prepared a design concept for the new woodland which enhances the existing historical and geological landscape. The Forestry Commission implemented the £1.5m scheme which includes viewpoints, a circle of ‘County Stones’ and a 5,500 capacity outdoor concert venue.
Old Pale is one of the biggest new plantings in the Mersey Forest, and has contributed to Delamere becoming a key visitor designation in Cheshire.
The project won the 2011 Landscape Institute Award for Design.
Judges’ described the project as “An outstanding example of large-scale landscape that responds well to the historic, ecological and geological sensitivities of the site.”
