TEP was commissioned to carry out a £800,000 scheme, on behalf of English Partnerships, to create and enhance areas of water vole wetland habitat to mitigate for the industrial development at Manor Park, Runcorn. Integral to the scheme was the decontamination and restoration of the main pond, which feeds the Manor Park wetland network.
Habitat creation works were carried out to compensate for loss of habitat as a result of the development. A series of adjoining ponds and ditches were re-profiled, fitted with artificial burrows and planted with reedbeds and a variety of other suitable wetland plants. In addition, a series of bed-check weirs were installed to maintain the overall site hydrology. The project has since been promoted by the Environment Agency as an exemplar scheme
