The 8th November 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of World Town Planning Day. The theme for this year is ‘Homes Start with Planning’ and to celebrate we’re taking a look at how TEP’s Planning team promote the delivery of new homes and sustainable communities.
In July 2024, the new Labour Government announced that councils will be given new targets to boost housebuilding and get Britain building again. The delivery of high-quality homes can contribute to the creation of healthy communities and act as a catalyst for future economic growth.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do and town planners play an important role in shaping liveable communities. The planning process ensures that community and stakeholder engagement play a key part in delivering successful developments which are inclusive, integrate into existing communities and balance the social, economic and environmental needs of current and future generations.
TEP assists both private and public sector clients in site promotion, planning applications, and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) co-ordination. We have secured consent for residential development across the country; Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire to name a few. We have also assisted Redrow for a number of years in the co-ordination of an Environmental Impact Assessment for numerous phases of their Daresbury Garden Village.
Not only is our Planning team directly involved in the delivery of new homes, but we also support on a variety of infrastructure projects which enable future residential development.
We regularly assist on electricity infrastructure projects for National Grid and Electricity North West Ltd securing consent for new substations and reinforcement works. As well as working on onshore elements of large interconnector schemes, linking sustainable energy across countries. These schemes contribute to a secure, reliable and resilient energy network to support areas of housing and business growth.
TEP’s Planning team is currently managing a number of planning applications for solar farms which will generate enough electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes per year. A number of these scheme are supported by Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) which provides a resource for storing energy produced by renewable means.
In May 2024, we secured planning permission for the North Hykeham Relief Road which will assist in unlocking adjacent land for the future development of approximately 2,000 dwellings allocated in the Local Plan, supporting the sustainable growth of Lincoln.
TEP’s Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) qualified team has significant experience in guiding development proposals, from feasibility, through consultation and engagement, to planning permission and to the discharge of planning conditions.
