Every year TEP adopts a charity to support, which is carefully selected by our staff. However this year has been a little different. Following the loss of a staff member’s child and saddened by this unimaginable tragedy, our staff wanted to offer their help and support in any way they could. In recognition of the comfort they have offered to this member of staff and to support their ongoing work for other families, the Directors and CSR Team chose to name Claire House Children’s Hospice as TEP’s Charity of the Year 2020.
Claire House Children’s Hospice helps seriously and terminally ill children live life to the full, creating wonderful memories and bringing back a sense of normality to family life. Through specialist nursing and emotional support, Claire House helps families smile when life couldn’t get any tougher.
“The teams (at Claire House) …from the care team, nurses, kitchen and housekeeping are all exceptional and we really have no way of saying thank you for everything they have done but we hope that you can help show our appreciation by making a donation to Claire House to allow them to continue to provide support to families such as ours, making what is such a difficult and heart-breaking time just that little bit easier”
Being under lockdown may have stumped us at first but we soon had our first fundraising opportunity set up for May. TEP encouraged staff and their families to come together and take part in Claire House’s Step-Up Challenge and climb the Three Peaks from the comfort of their own home. Week 1 our staff climbed 6,180 steps to reach the summit of Scafell Pike, week 2 took us to the top of Snowdon where staff climbed 7,120 steps, and in week 3 our staff faced the final challenge climbing a massive 8,810 steps to stand tall at the top of Ben Nevis. All together our staff climbed 442,200 steps and raised a fantastic £280.
We didn’t stop there… on the 29th May we finished the month by hosting a Virtual Pub Quiz. We had seven rounds of gruelling questions that would have put Bob Monkhouse to shame. We covered movie trivia, general knowledge, flags, music and topped it off with a Wheel of Fortune – Trivial Pursuit showdown. By the end of the month our staff had managed to raise a fantastic £530, which will go a long way to supporting the fantastic work being done at Claire House, such as paying for 31 hours of one-to-one nursing!
Thank you and well done to all our staff who have taken part and donated so far and stay tuned for our next challenge!
