South Kesteven District Council – Open Space, Sports and Recreation Study

South Kesteven Open Space Strategy

South Kesteven District Council has appointed The Environment Partnership (TEP) to produce an Open Space, Sports and Recreation Study and will be working with key stakeholders to establish the quality, accessibility and demand of open spaces across the District.

South Kesteven District spans 363.9 sq miles across south west Lincolnshire and features some 2,670.92ha of open space across 734 sites of varying size and typology. These open spaces form a valuable network of green space providing recreational opportunities for the community, as well as essential habitats for a range of species.

TEP has been commissioned by South Kesteven District Council to prepare an Open Spaces, Sports and Recreation Study, to update the existing Open Space, Sports and Recreation Facilities Report (2017). The Study will provide a robust and up-to-date evidence base to support the Local Plan review up to 2041. The information will be easily accessible and cover open space throughout the South Kesteven District irrespective of ownership.

The Study will enable the Council to understand and protect the existing provision of open space, understand its demand, the accessibility requirements, as well as provide recommendations for management and maintenance.

The updated Study will allow the Council to prioritise the development of open space, ensure that poor quality open spaces receive priority for investment and improvement, and that open space receives sufficient developer contributions to provide for new communities.

To prepare the new Open Space, Sports and Recreation Study, TEP has undertook quantity, quality and accessibility audits of open space sites in the District in June 2023. Now we want your opinions on open space with South Kesteven District.

Community Consultation

South Kesteven District Council has commissioned TEP, a leading Environmental Consultancy, to prepare an Open Space, Sports and Recreation Study for South Kesteven District. The Study will replace the existing Study which was adopted in 2017. The Study will provide an evidence base for the open space requirements in the District, irrespective of ownership and will allow the Council to prioritise the development of and investment into open space within the District.

The Strategy will cover a range of open space types, from formal public parks and play areas, to more informal natural green spaces, and will assess how future needs and population growth will impact on the District’s existing open space provision.

As part of our work, we are interested to hear from the community about their views on the provision of Open Space in the District. We have put together a short survey, which we encourage you to fill in.

Consultation will be open from 02nd August 2023 and run until 10th September 2023. Thank you for your response and we appreciate you taking the time to offer your valuable feedback.
