TEP was commissioned by St Edward Homes, a joint venture between Berkeley Homes and M&G Investments, to provide landscape design services for a 30 ha site in Wallingford in South Oxfordshire which can deliver housing and other community facilities for families and elderly people.
This proposed extension of Wallingford is located to the west of the existing town, with proposals designed to incorporate the new extension seamlessly into the existing settlement rather than a stand-alone community on the outskirts of the historic town.
St Edward Homes pride themselves on ensuring all of their housing developments have strong public transport links, and new bus services with frequent bus stops are incorporated into the masterplan proposals
The masterplan also includes a network of footpaths and cycle ways which will create easy access for existing and new residents, not only to the popular high street in the town centre. but also to the wider countryside. Sustainable transport, sustainable drainage and encouraging a healthy lifestyle were important considerations in the formulation of the masterplan.
A variety of homes will be built together with specialist accommodation for elderly people, a single form primary school, community sports pitches and allotments.
Land on the western edge of the development has been saved for green space, with plenty of land for play and recreation and areas in which enhanced biodiversity will be encouraged. The landscape is designed to be multifunctional, bringing benefits to health and wellbeing, nature conservation, food production whilst also providing a strong green edge to the development and integration with the wider countryside.
TEP also prepared the landscape and visual impact assessment for the site which is close to two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
