TEP prepared a masterplan and secured permission for this 24 hectare former agricultural site on behalf of the charity Foundation Matters. It includes two recreational lakes, canoe and fishing facilities, lakeside chalets, sports hall and accommodation block. TEP has provided landscape design and ecological advice and worked closely with engineers to minimise flood risk as the site is near the River Trent floodplain.
The masterplan created an attractive landscape for the Camp centred around a new lake. We considered the optimum placement of the new buildings in the new lakeside setting and planned a series of meadows and open spaces set in a maturing network of woodland. TEP’s survey work identified the presence of bats and opportunities to provide habitats for bird species such as song thrush and lapwing, otters and water voles. Bird and bat boxes are incorporated into new buildings to provide breeding opportunities for these species.
The Centre lies in an area of potential archaeological interest, and when needed, TEP has provided a watching brief prior to deep excavations.
